What I do as an SAP SD consultant
The SAP SD (Sales and Distribution) module is the heart of the process that generates revenue: the path from customer order to shipment, billing and payment is designed here. As an SAP SD consultant I design and configure this flow around the real needs of the business, and keep it healthy after go-live.
- Organisational structure: sales organisation, distribution channel, division and sales area design
- Document flow: order, delivery and billing types, copy control, document-flow reporting
- Pricing: pricing procedure, condition types, access sequences and condition records (VK11)
- Credit and output management: risk limits, order blocks, forms and e-documents
- Integration: MM (stock and availability check), FI (accounting postings), CO-PA (profitability)
Export and multi-currency scenarios
For exporters, the hardest parts of an SD design are Incoterms-driven freight and insurance costs, exchange-rate differences between document and local currency, and the need for pro forma invoices. I aim to solve these inside standard SAP with condition types that vary by shipping terms, the right exchange-rate type and delivery-related pro forma billing.
Pricing procedures and the condition technique
Pricing errors are lost margin. I bring customer, product, region and campaign prices, together with discounts, freight and insurance, into a single readable pricing procedure. The goal is fewer manual overrides by the sales team and every price element flowing into the right value field in CO-PA.
ABAP development and CO-PA integration
Where configuration is not enough, I build targeted enhancements with BAdIs, Enhancement Spots and User Exits, and as an SAP analyst I write the development specification, test scenarios and acceptance criteria. When sales and cost data meet in CO-PA, profitability by product, customer and region can be tracked in real time.
How I work
- As-is analysis: process map, document flows, data on problem scenarios
- Fit-gap and solution design: what the standard covers, what needs development, the risks
- Configuration and development: incremental changes validated in the test system
- Testing: unit, integration and user acceptance testing (UAT)
- Go-live and beyond: cutover plan, user training, close support in the first weeks
